Good picture - difficult menu - good memory3
This product is all right. I bought it because it was the cheapest one at 12 inches -- and I was looking for a large size that could be shipped immediately. The image is good, clear, bright. There was one dead pixel -- not noticeable to my grandparents who were receiving it, but annoying to me. The internal memory is useful and I was pleased with that. The menu is confusing. I set it all up for my grandparents so that then they could just plug and play. That worked out well and the recipients were very happy with the gift! I wished that it had a feature to randomize the pictures. It plays them in the order of the files in the folder. There is a "randomize" feature but it only randomizes the transition effects (dissolve, wipe, etc.) It does remember which picture it was on when you turned it off -- an important feature.
Great price with so many features5
This item came with lots of surprises. I did not expect that it has so many features, while other digital frames do not have. First tried to get a NIX 12a model (already got a 8in one) but its price went up from $84 to $119 within a few days. So I looked Aluratek 12in, good price with the same features I care: play music and video in addition to just photos. It has all the stantdard features , but with so much more.
Pros: 1) Language setting.
2) Playing cristal clear pictures, also playing mp3, and video (avi and Mp4). The best thing for video is that it has memory to the place you left last time, and has fastforward/ or backword, while Nix 08a does not have any of these. And it also can change aspect ratio, either 4:3 or 16:9.
3) Can display any type of file - e.g. Ebook, even can show your .txt file.
4) Remote control is simple, but with so many functions once you know how to navigate
5) can do picture zoom, rotate
6) Have calendar and time/clock/Alarm - Nix do not have any of it
Cons: 1) frame appearance not very artistic - boarder too narrow

Overrall, I give it 5 star rating. Great price and so many features

'Green Screen of Death' -- JPEG Freeze1
I purchased this Aluratek ADMPF412F digital frame to show jpeg images. I didn't need or want any of the additional features (video, alarm, calendar, audio, etc.) so I can't/won't comment on those. I wanted the frame to run continuously (the same way I've used other digital frames from other manufacturers with no problems).

Problem is, after several hours of operation the screen goes to green and freezes. The remote doesn't function, and I have to unplug to restart. Once I do a "cold restart" I have to set everything up again and begin the slide show again.

Yes, I have turned the timer to 'Off'. Yes, this happens whether I'm showing photos from the internal memory or from an SD card. There aren't any firmware updates on the Aluratek site (and Aluratek support confirms they don't offer any for this frame anyway).

Aluratek's customer service can't tell me what the problem is, though they confirm it's not likely user error -- probably some kind of overheating problem. They tell me this is not a common issue; based on other reviews on Amazon I'm inclined to believe it. Regardless, the frame is totally useless for my needs.

On a positive note, though, I am very impressed with Amazon's return policies and process. This is the first item I've ever returned to Amazon, and it is by far the easiest return I've ever experienced. Five stars (*****) for Amazon's world-class service.

A very clever digital frame5
I've had this for a couple of days now and have to say that Kodak really has a winner on its hands with the Pulse. Kodak has solved the "last mile" problem with photo frames by creating such an easy way to get photos onto the Pulse. After receiving it you create an email address at [...] and simply email photos to that address. It takes about three minutes from emailing a photo to the Pulse to when it shows up on it. Let your friends and family know the email address and they can send photos to it too.

Setting up the Pulse is easy and takes about 10 minutes from unboxing it to displaying photos on it. The frame first connects to the internet via your WiFi and then displays an activiation code. You then go to [...] and create a user account and email address by keying in this activation code. After that you can start emailing photos to your new email account. In addition you can also have it display photos from your facebook or Kodak Gallery accounts.

The Pulse has worked great for me with both photos emailed to it and from a facebook account. It has all the usual slots in the back so you can run a slideshow off a flashcard too. A nice feature of the Pulse is that you can sort the photos displayed on it based on who emailed them to you. Tapping on a photo shows who sent it, when it was sent and the subject line of the email when it was sent to you.

My one concern with the Pulse is with wireless connectivity. Where we originally wanted to put the Pulse our computers, cellphones, etc., easily get WiFi coverage but for some reason the Pulse can't. We moved it across the room and it got coverage but it's strange that it had a problem when other devices didn't. Other than that, however, the frame has been perfect.

I originally bought this for my mom so all her kids and grandkids can email her photos without her having to be at a computer to view them. But I like it so much I've decided to keep it for myself and buy her another. One surprise is that there isn't a simple way to print the photos from the Pulse. It would be great if you could select one or more pictures and have them sent to Kodak Gallery or some other online site and have them printed. Perphaps they'll add this feature in a future software update.

I'm very pleased with the Pulse and recommend anyone thinking about a digital photo frame seriously consider it. Good job, Kodak.
A clever Wi-Fi enabled frame, but it has its limitations.4
The Kodak Pulse digital frame is a nicely designed Wi-Fi enabled frame that you manage through a website. It's an excellent frame for the most part but there are some things I wasn't fond of.

Design wise it is a nice looking frame with a glossy black front and a chrome strip running around the edge. It reminds a lot of the iPhone aesthetic. I especially like the fact that the Kodak logo on the front of the frame is very subtle. On the back of the frame is a door that covers the memory card / USB jump drive slots, a power button, and a status check button. The frame is primarily controlled via its touch screen and the Kodak Pulse website. The touch screen itself is very nicely done. It's quite accurate and responds to the first touch most of the time. You can swipe your finger across the screen to flick through the photos like an iPhone too. While the frame is light in weight the built quality is nice and it feels solid. To store your photos there is 512MB of internal memory, and my 2,510 photos are using 56% of the available memory.

Once you take your frame out of the box and plug it in it prompts you to enter your Wi-Fi information. The process is simple and it walks you through step-by-step. I was able to connect it to both a NETGEAR and Apple Airport router without problems. Both routers have a hidden SSID and WPA2 security. Once you have successfully connected the frame to your network, you are provided an activation number, and are directed to the frame's website.

You add pictures via several methods; 1) directly from your computer via the website, 2) from a memory card and/or USB jump drive, 3) from your Facebook and/or Kodak Gallery accounts, 4) from a custom e-mail address just for the frame.

I added photos to the frame from the website and it was a simple process (I am using a Mac running Snow Leopard and used the Safari browser). I had some friends e-mail photos to the frame and everything came through fine as well. Lastly, I accessed my Kodak Gallery photos, and the process was simple and worked well. The website also allows you to view all the pictures on the frame and delete some as needed. Being able to manage the frame this way is very convenient, and it is what makes this Kodak frame special. It's very nice to be able to manage your frame's photos remotely. This makes it an ideal frame to give to people who do not live close by and/or are not tech friendly because you can manage the frame for them remotely. (see my included photos for screenshots of the website)

Not only can you manage the pictures through the website, but also you can change the frame's settings. You can adjust the picture display duration and transition effect, how the pictures fit the frame, and whether one picture or a collage is displayed. Lastly, you can set times for the frame to automatically turn on and off.

The frame's picture quality is very high. The photos are sharp, the colors are vivid and true, and the viewing angle is good. The frame's resolution of 800 x 600 allows you to view the photos up close without the pictures looking pixilated. Additionally, the frame's 4:3 screen-ratio is much better than widescreen frames, since 99% of photos are not taken at a 16:9 ratio. Thus, your photos are not cropped as much. The only picture quality issue is some light leakage from the bottom. Basically when you are close to the frame, and it is displaying a dark photograph, the bottom edge looks brighter.

The only negatives I have are as follows: 1) The settings for the frame are very limited, you can only choose from 3, 10, and 30 second picture display durations. There is a smart setting that starts out fast and slows down to 30 minutes a photo, but I find all these choices either too fast or too slow. A Philips' frame I had allowed for much more flexibility in this area. 2) There is no separate schedule to turn the frame on and off for the weekend. Again, the Philips' frame had an automatic schedule for both the weekdays and the weekend. Moreover, you can't change the frame's schedule through the frame itself, it has to be done via the website. 3) If a photo is in portrait orientation there are just black bars placed on both sides of it. Some frames will tile portrait photos to eliminate this problem. 4) There is no adjustment for the frame's screen brightness. 5) Lastly, the frame cannot do a slideshow of both the memory card photos and online photos together. It would be nice if you could so you could supplement the frame's memory using a card. I am hoping that Kodak can fix some of these issues by updating the website, or the frame's software, since it is Wi-Fi enabled.

All in all... a very nicely done Wi-Fi frame, with good photo quality, and a well designed website.

P.S. Sorry for the long review, but there is a lot to cover. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment and I will respond promptly.

3/27/2010 Update - Some of my photos had quotes in the titles and they did not upload even though the website said they did. Make sure your photos don't have quotation marks anywhere in the title.

4/6/2010 Update - So I've recently run into a problem with the frame. I tried uploading some more photos I recently took. 59 to be exact, and it keeps getting stuck after it uploads a handful of them. All the photos show up in the online gallery, but the frame keeps trying to download the remaining pictures and nothing happens, I've waited days even. I deleted those pictures and tired them again with no luck. Then, I deleted all the photos off the frame except for the e-mailed ones and it got stuck again. I had to resort to uploading all the photos via memory card. I've added some additional photos via the online gallery after I uploaded all the older ones and they came through fine. Hopefully it will not get "clogged" again. I still like the frame overall and think it's neat. I'm hoping this was a one-time issue. The problem has not re-appeared as of 4/19/2010.

4/11/2010 Update - To reset the frame and erase all its photos and setting you can click both the Power and Status buttons on the back. Be aware though that any photos that have been e-mailed to your frame will be deleted as well. Also, I've found that if you add photos via the website, when you display the photo's information on the frame it shows the upload date, but if you add them to the frame via memory card it shows the date it was taken.

4/19/2010 Update - Last night the frame prompted me to download a new firmware update. Very nice.

7/14/2010 Update - A couple of days ago I turned on the frame and all the photos I had added via SD card were gone. I unplugged it a couple of times and cycled the power but they never came back and the frame said they were gone. So I tried to upload them again but the frame stopped halfway through and said it was full. This meant that even though the frame said the pictures were not there, they were, since the memory was still being used. I had to reset the frame and start from scratch but was able to get all the photos on there again. I'm hoping this was just a one-time fluke. If this happens again, I'll update this review and revise my rating.
finally, a photo frame for grandparents5
I've been looking for a photo frame that I can give to my parents, who don't get to see my kids often. I wanted one that allows me to update pictures remotely, and doesn't require any technical knowledge on their part. I tried a few WiFi-capable units: Toshiba (wide-screen ratio, a mistake), Viewsonic (doesn't auto-play when turned on), and Pixstar (seems nice, but $230?). Finally, Amazon emailed me about the new Kodak Pulse, which at the time got three 5-star reviews. Well, what the heck, I decided to buy it and try it out for myself.

Pros:
- Very nice, clear LCD display. It appears to be higher res than other frame. Maybe it's because it is only 7", yet 800x600 pixels. Maybe the LED backlight helps too. The colors also seem richer on this frame.
- Small frame border. Some frames have a ridiculously large border, which takes focus away from the pictures.
- Once configured, zero-configuration needed to use. Perfect for non-technical viewers.
- Impressive web management tools, with many settings.
- No remote! Yes, this is a feature! Since it has web management, there is no remote control to lose. And photo navigation is done thru touch screen.
- Simple, elegant design. The frame is also pretty thin.
- Collage mode, where individual pictures in the collage update in sequence.
- Energy save mode, where you can set times when frame is on. Also can turn on frame when new pictures are received.
- Touch screen interface, for simple management and flipping through photos (you can disable touch screen interface).
- Email upload. This is very convenient, especially from phone.

Cons:
- Management must be made thru Kodak website. What if Kodak website is down, or decides not to support product anymore?
- On first use, it automatically upgraded firmware, which is fine. However, it wiped out my WiFi settings so I had to re-enter it.
- Wished it was offered in larger screen size, which would be nicer for collage mode.
- Security. If you enable upload by email option, anyone who knows the email address can send pictures to the frame. Last thing I want is spam or inappropriate photos on my frame. They should allow you to restrict who can send photos to the frame.

So far I'm very impressed by this photo frame. Never thought of Kodak as a high-tech company, but I guess they know a thing or two about displaying pictures. I think it makes for a great gift that will keep on giving.

The perfect companion to your digital camera
We capture our most precious, and our most common, moments because they are not to be forgotten or taken for granted. The moment when we take a picture we are making a decision to be conscious, to be in the moment and to be grateful for it. But a photo in a camera or on a flash card is only an unfulfilled intention. Let your images free. Give them the power they deserve in your life to make you smile, to remember, or to pause for a moment and consider the past. Take advantage of personal features like rotate and resize, backwards and forwards controls, brightness and color adjustments, programmable on and off, and your presentation will be both seamless and earth-friendly.
The gift of a digital photo frame to a friend or loved one is every bit as meaningful as the gift of one to yourself. Who doesn’t need a pick-me-up right about now ? It is said that the gift of experience is so much more meaningful than a mere material object. If that is the case, then the gift of re-experiencing those special moments must be priceless.
Share yourself with a slideshow
Framed pictures are such great conversation starters, and we get to know each other a little better when we share ourselves by displaying photos of friends, family, and favorite occasions. How much better we get to know each other through the use of slide shows, which allow us to showcase many special moments. Very nice Digital Picture Frame5
Got this as a Christmas present for my mom. Loaded some test pictures on there just to ensure picture quality was good and that it worked reasonably well. Have read some reviews (while researching DPFs) that some DPFs are not worth buying. Issues with picture quality and ease of use.

There are two ways you can put pictures on this frame. There is a memory card slot in the back and you can also connect this unit to your computer with the supplied USB cable.

I had no problem connecting and uploading 20 mb of pictures. Display quality is excellent. It does auto crop pictures so that they don't looked stretched or distorted.

I read another review about how to adjust picture sizes so that this unit does not have to auto crop.

Although I haven't used the ap to auto crop yet, basically you have to download Microsoft Photo Story from microsoft to do so. I'm sure there are other apps, free or otherwise that do so.

Very happy with this unit. Now wife wants one. I would say, anything less that 10 inches is a waste of money. I do not see how a 7 inch frame would provide a nice veiwable screen.

You can change how frequently the images change, whether or not it crops them. Lots of features. The only con I have is its a little hard to use menu. Read the manual...

Not perfect, but a good product4
I got this photo frame for my father for Christmas and filled it with some pictures before I wrapped it. My parents divorced when I was 7, and somehow my father didn't seem to receive any of the pictures of my me and my twin sister after my folks had split. When I graduated college my mother made me a scrapbook and my father, looking through it, mentioned that he didn't have any of these pictures and "that's where they all went". So I took my Canon scanner and took some pages out of my scrapbook, and scanned some of the photos to put in this frame, which gave me a pretty good indication of how this product works.

Pros:

It's a nice looking frame. It can hang on the wall, which is a must for my dad and stepmom, who have a two year-old at home. It also has a plastic fold-out leg to sit on a table. The leg actually comes out and extends, which was not glaringly obvious at first. I only figured it out after the frame slid over several times.

The picture quality is good. The pixels present on the frame are very minimal, and not present at all when viewing the frame from several feet away.

It comes with a remote which is pretty handy if you've ever seen anyone trying to change things by pressing all over the frame.

It is versatile as far as input goes: You can put pictures on the frame with a USB cord to the internal memory, or use an array of memory cards, or even a memory stick (although I'm not sure that you would want to).

Features: You can change the duration of the slides, the effects from one picture to another (fade, roll, etc), the randomness of the photos, etc. You can edit the photos so that they appear a certain way in the frame only, although this only works for photos saved to the hard drive.

Cons:

It comes with two mattes for the frame. One is black, the color of the frame, and the other is white. I cannot see any reason you would want to use the white one. I think its a waste of materials and a pointless inclusion.

Ease of use: When I first opened the frame, I inserted an 8 gb memory card into the slot and plugged it into my computer. Two devices appeared on my Macbook Pro's desktop: One that said Panimage (okay, obviously the frame), and the other that said "No Name". It took me a few minutes to realize that the panimage icon was for the hard drive in the frame, and the other was the memory card. I dragged and dropped the images, but was unsure of where I was supposed to put them. Also, I dragged and dropped images I had exported from Aperature, a photo editing program. I always shoot photos in RAW + large, and when examining the frame, I realized it had also imported the Raw format as well. All of these images were in the frame as "unsupported format" taking up space. I feel that there should be something that rejects the unsupported formats, so I wouldn't have to erase them all manually afterwards.

Another thing that was a bit of a bummer is that you cannot play the slideshow from the internal memory as well as the memory card. Its one or the other.

I read another review that stated the remote did not work. Mine did, but barely. Its nice that it came with a remote, but it felt cheap and was tiny. The buttons did not have much of a tactile response and it sometimes took two or three presses of a button, pointed directly at the screen for it to register.

The crop aspect ratio is off, as I've seen others mention. If you choose to fit the images to the frame, it chops off the top inch or so for any photos that are shoot in the vertical orientation. It worked great for photos in the 4x3 aspect. Unfortunately, because many heads were chopped off with this setting, I took it off, forcing all photos to be seen with a slight black border around them. This essentially made the photos smaller.

Conclusion:

Its a good frame for the money. I've seen many other frames go for a lot more. This has some customizable features which you may choose to use or not, but you aren't paying a ridiculous price for them. Once you get past figuring out how to use it and make it look the way you want, it does have a nice, sleek design. To me, that was one of the most important things.
Ok, but not impressed2
I received the 10" Pandigital Picture Frame for Christmas. It works okay, but its memory is bad. I was only able to load 45MB onto the 512MB internal memory. Anything after that, it says there is no space on the device even though it says there is 430MB of free space. I would not buy this brand myself and if I was to buy a digital picture screen I probably would go for the HP DreamScreen though it costs quite a bit more. Once I had my pictures installed though it seems to work okay though I will probably buy a SD card and use that instead of its internal memory.

Wide Screen Bliss4
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3J8V7Q35EGOTQ The df1130 is one of the only frames out there with a 16:9 aspect ratio! Most of my pictures are taken in widescreen format and if you've ever tried displaying something in widescreen on a standard display, it either shows up really small because of the black bars or your picture is cropped, or shall I say CHOPPED! The frame also supports XVID video! WTF???? Pretty cool. I actually watched an entire movie that I downloaded RIGHT ON THE FRAME!

Just another cheap option3
For the price, this Digital Frame is not terrible. I was expecting something a bit better but again, it's ok for a 480x234 resolution.

There's not on board memory but you can use a cheap SD or USB flash drive, just drop your pics there and you're ready. The menu is very basic as the unit itself.

If you can wait or pay for something better, then do it.

well, OK, but flawed3
Not bad. Good picture, but sparse instructions make it difficult to set up. Literature says on-board memory, but does not say how much. No instructions how to load the memory. I suspect it actually has none, so you have to load a drive or card and connect it. I rather dislike things that make you buy more things (seems somehow...disengenuous to me) (I draw the line just on the other side of "batteries not included"). You have to plug it in and leave it plugged in: cord is visible for wall mounting. To an extent, I have enough electronic junk hanging around as it is. In part, I'm not a big fan of old photos anyway. Leave them in albums where they can curl up in peace.

Love it! Great little gift!5
I think this frame is great, it's a great little gift for someone that doesn't have alot of room or for an office desk. I think the resolution is great and the features are great too. It's very easy to work, I didn't need the instruction book at all. My slideshow shows every pic on my sd card so I'm not sure what other peoples problems are when they say it only holds 10 pics. This is not true. Great deal for the price!
It's Just OK!3
It's a decent product to buy if you are looking for something that is inexpensive. Great for a desk @ work or home, maybe a small room area in your home. The directions were not clear so I had to figure everything out pretty much through trial and error. Doesn't hold that many pictures that you would like to view for your slide show, I believe it's only 10 pictures allowed at a time. For what it's worth it's just ok.
It's good4
Yes, it's very good. I like it so much! But there is a little problem, the Resolution of the screen is low. In genaral, it's ok.

Customer Reviews

OK frame, with 2 caveats2
In reviewing the P85 digital picture frame, I'm a little torn on how to rate it.

Remember, anyone who has it listed as being part of the Vine program, like myself, received this item for free from Amazon. I am basing my review on how satisfied I would be if I had purchased it myself. And I would say I would be only slightly satisfied at best and would likely return it for something with on board memory if I were purchasing this myself.

Considering that, here's how I view it:

What I liked:

-Ease of use
-Brightness of the display

What I don't:

-Lack of transition effects (it has some, but nothing amazing)
-Requirement of an extra memory card/USB device; no built in memory
-Can't run on batteries
-Price
-Image quality
-ADVERTISING IMAGES EMBEDDED IN SLIDE SHOWS

To qualify the image quality statement, the colors seem washed out on the screen on nearly all the pictures I've copied over. Color reproduction is OK at best and nasty at worst (orange turns into a bloom filled red). I don't know what images look like on other similar devices, but at $70 I would have hoped for better, especially when Kodak plasters "STUNNING PICTURE QUALITY" on everything, including a sticker stuck on the frame itself. Not sure if I were Kodak I'd be so proud of what the images look like on this screen. They aren't horrible but they don't match the quality on my LCD monitor connected to my PC nor my expectations.

The absolute worst thing about this device isn't that they didn't include built in memory. It's the ADVERTISING they randomly insert into a slide show. It may be at the end of a slide show that it happens, but there are 3 Kodak images that you don't have access to delete and have NO WAY of disabling from showing that just appear in your slideshows. I'm sorry, but that's just too tacky for me and one of the biggest reasons I rated it 2 stars.

In my mind, something with an MSRP of nearly $140 or $90 (on Amazon $140; Kodak lists it as $90) should DEFINITELY include on board memory. For anyone considering the purchase of the P85, be sure to include the price of a compatible memory device in your cost estimates. That will add anywhere from $8 - $60 depending on the size of the memory card or USB drive you end up purchasing.

Compatible memory devices for those that wish to purchase one instead of swapping in and out of their camera, are these:

Secure Digital (SD)
Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC)
Multimedia Card (MMC)
MEMORY STICK (MS)
MS PRO/MS PRO DUO/MS PRO DUO-HG
1 USB high-speed embedded port host: USB flash drive or powered USB hard drive

Given my personal requirements and the advertising/no built in memory, I can't give it anything more than 2 stars. I'm honestly glad I didn't pay for this device. If I were in the market for one of these frames, I'd seriously be looking at other devices instead. As for the image quality, most people probably won't mind, but as a hobbyist photographer the color inaccuracy is annoying. If you're buying this as a gift for mom or dad and they aren't photographers, they probably won't mind it at all.

EDIT- other reviewers report there is no advertising in their slideshows. It is entirely possible that what I am experiencing is my memory card going bad. As I commented in the comments, randomly I see the Kodak pictures, then after the 3 Kodak pictures play, I see the memory card icon, indicating it read my memory card, and my pictures resume in slideshow. Whether this is how it was intended or if it's my card going bad, I'm not sure. My 2 stars still stand given my disappointment with the frame, however with the current Amazon price of $60, my expectations would have been lower and the lack of built in memory less of problem for me to get over.
Easy to Setup, Easy to Use, Good Display, What's not to Like?5
In the past, I've found Kodak digital products to be just slightly off kilter when it came to set-up and operation. There always seemed to be a slight learning curve. The Easyshare P85 may represent a new wave of Kodak products. The P85 comes with a handy illustrated quick-start booklet, that obviously was NOT translated from the original Chinese or Korean. Three steps and it's up and running. It was very intuitive and obvious. I haven't found any way to adjust brightness or saturation. But as is, the picture is bright and sharp. My frame is sitting in a brightly lit office and the P85 needs every watt of light to display well and it does the job.

With price of USB flash drives dropping like rocks, I loaded every picture I have on a 16GB flash drive. Every one of my boring, hackneyed, self-indulgent photos is now on display to an unprepared public.
Simple no frills frame with a great picture5
Hi,

I purchased this frame on sale at Amazon for $50. There are other reviews on this frame, some of which come from a Vine program Amazon runs where people get the item to review for free. So far I am less than thrilled with their reviews. In reading them you get the sense that either they have done no research on other frames, and therefore judge the Kodak frame too harshly. Or you get the sense that they did not spend much time with the frame before they kicked out a review.

So, I purchased this frame myself. And I have been looking into frames for a while. It always seemed that frames were too expensive or too cheap. And either way, the frames would not work as expected. Most digital frames do not come with a rechargeable battery. And the Kodak P85 is in the same boat. Quite a few frames will play video and music. The Kodak P85 does neither, however it is not very expensive. Most frames come with some internal memory. The Kodak P85 does not. So why buy this frame. You decide.

The P85 is SIMPLE but it has great screen color. The resolution is 800x600. The aspect ratio is not widescreen. It is a normal picture ratio of 4:3. It has no remote control to get lost. You can set it to turn itself off after 8 hours, 16 hours, or stay on until turned off by you. It will shuffle the pics or play them by date. I read one review that the pics by date could be off if you edited the pic and resaved it and therfore changed the pics date. Quite possible but I did not check that. You can use various memory cards or USB. I used an SD card. One note, the side of the card with the write protect switch is the side that faces the top of the frame when you put the card in the frame. Just turn the frame on, and put the card in. You know it sees the card when it puts an image of a memory card on the screen. It then begins playing the pics off the card. No there are no Kodak pics when it plays the pics off your card. If all you see are the kodak pics then the frame does not see your card. I like the Pan and Zoom feature. That is when it brings up a pic and the view of the pic moves slighty and zooms in slightly like when you see documentaries on tv. I think its called the Ken Burns effect.

So you can decide on what features you want in a frame. I wanted simple. No remote, no music, no video, no battery, no touch screen. I just wanted pictures displayed with stunning color. The lack of built in memory does not bother me. I prefer to leave the frame in place, remove the card and put more pics on the card by inserting the card into my PC. One note. The frame does not come with a memory card. But you really don't need much of a card. A two gig card will cost you around $5 amd that will hold more than enough pics. I actually have a few cards laying around in my camera bag. It only reads Jpeg and Exif pic formats by the way. My pics are Jpegs. You can right click on a pic in the directory on your computer and select properties to see what format yours are in.

If you shop around you can find a cheaper frame to display pics, but the frames always seem to have iffy characteristics. The P85 at 8 inches is worth around $50-$60. It is not in the category of a $100 frame.
